It takes one day to install finished wood flooring. In contrast, it takes about one week to install, sand, stain, and seal unfinished wood strips and planks in the home. Then it takes about one more week for the floor to acclimate to its new environment. Choose unfinished flooring if:
- You like a floor with a flush, not a beveled, look.
- You're undertaking a major renovation or new construction.
- You desire a less common wood or stain that is not available in a finished style.
Usually, solid wood flooring is nailed to the subfloor while engineered wood flooring is connected to float over the subfloor. Existing flooring must be removed before installation. If the subfloor is damaged or uneven, installers will repair or level it.
